My 2024 goals

in a office setting, there is a wooden desk with some stationary on top. In the middle of the table, a silver plaque says: I'm kind of a big deal

In my last two posts, I've been talking about the rationale behind habit-building, investing time and effort in what feels right, and the right mindset to tackle the new year most sustainably and consistently possible.

Today, I'd like to take all of the thinking methods I've implemented and use them to guide me toward setting my 2024 goals.

One thing that is important to note here, I'm NOT striving for something to be done, I want to strive for the doing. Let me explain.

I don't want to set yearly goals focusing on things to be done, I want to feel accomplished, fulfilled, and happy, while I'm doing it. Of course, I want a good outcome from whatever I choose to spend my time, energy, and money on, but I'd rather enjoy the process instead of thinking about how I'm going to feel after the goal is completed.

That being said, my actual goals were more blurry to me than what I expected. I took a break from writing this post to think about what I wanted to have as my 2024 goals and another "disclaimer" came up: I also don't if my priorities will change like they did last year. I went from trying to get a job at all costs and living like things didn't affect me so deeply to focusing on healing my mind. So here's what I'll start the year trying to accomplish:

  1. Get things done instead of getting things perfect

  2. Truly and deeply believe that skill and projects have no other way than to improve with time

  3. Get myself more out there and not feel ashamed of my passions

  4. Forgive myself more often

  5. Be as consistent as I can be with the blog and social media

  6. Find a healthy and sustainable way to live with my partner on the road

  7. Take action to get my first car

  8. Be considered a senior in my professional role

  9. Make US$100 with the blog until December

  10. Build more connections with my family and close friends

As you can tell from this 10-item list, the first half is geared toward mindsets, and the second half is geared toward actual measurable life goals. So let me go through them one at a time.

Get things done instead of getting things perfect

Perfectionism can and has taken the best of me at times. This goal focuses on confronting a fear of failure, on the processes of doing and learning, instead of what the outcome should look like.

Truly and deeply believe that skill and projects have no other way than to improve with time

Following up on the previous goal, it's ok to not get it perfect because I can only improve from where I stand. And it will happen the more I practice, do it, or face it.

Get myself more out there and not feel ashamed of my passions

The only way I'll build a community of like-minded people is by sharing what I have to say. That can be on social media or simply talking about this blog, my baby side project that I love so dearly. I need to make myself more seen and heard so I can attract those who vibe with what I'm sharing. My passions and projects are worth talking about.

Forgive myself more often

A self-explanatory one. I'm flawed, I'm human and actually am a very fast learner when I make mistakes. My current CEO told me that there's no better learning method than making mistakes, so I'll take that.

Be as consistent as I can be with the blog and social media

I want to make this space thrive, so I made a point to dedicate a few hours every week to it. The only way forward is up, right?

Find a healthy and sustainable way to be with my partner on the road

That's a tough one because it's not under my control. If you're new to the blog, my partner works as an engineer on the road and has to move often. I can accompany him at times and at other times, I can't. What is tough, though, is finding a way to cope with the distance, see each other more often, and look for a place to establish ourselves, so we'll always have somewhere to come back to.

Take action to get my first car

I need a car now that I'm living alone and sort of isolated from my close support network. Having a car will open a door for me to visit my family more often, have the freedom to come and go with my dog, and meet my partner. I've been scared of the amount of money it takes and what's the best approach, but I have to take action.

Be considered a senior in my professional role

I now work as a Project and Customer Experience Manager in a Danish startup company. I want to get better at dealing with difficult clients, getting things done quicker, and being a good leader. Right now I stand between Junior and Senior but want to get to a senior role this year.

Make US$100 with the blog until December

Again, self-explanatory, but I want this side project of mine to become a side hustle that can provide me with a financial outcome. So yeah, US$100 until December, let's see how that goes.

Build more connections with my family and close friends

I want to feel closer to them even though I might not be able to be there physically. I want them to feel heard, comforted, and at ease when sharing news or difficult times. I want my relationships to be even more meaningful.

I think there's still a lot to unpack there but we have a whole year of content to do so. How about you? What are your plans for 2024?
