Revisiting my 2023 goals

Why my 2023 goals?

I recently went through some of my first posts because I felt a need to look over my content, rethink some of the oldest stuff, or update the mindset changes and accomplishments I had during these last few months.

For that reason, today I'll be reviewing my 2023 goals post.

When I first wrote the post, I had just faced rejection in a hiring process from a company I was super sure I would get into (that's why I created the blog by the way, I was frustrated and needed to vent).

By that point, I realized that the mentality I'd had up until that point was doing more bad than good to my mental health. I was super focused on money, on proving to everyone I was too good to remain unemployed, and wasn't resting my mind the way I was supposed to.

I had just come out of a grave crisis regarding work, and had just moved to a small beach town somewhat away from the life I was used to.

By that point, I decided to embrace all the change and frustration in my life and try to identify things to be grateful for and to help me grow.

When writing my 2023 goals, this was my headspace. And this is what I came up with:

  • I need to feel accomplished both financially and non-financially.

  • I want to like Mondays.

  • Get paid enough so that I could pay all of my bills, have some extra to go out and visit friends and family and not have to worry too much about my expenses at the end of the month.

  • I need to study and research my options to corporate life thoroughly enough so that I could begin experimenting.

I had 3 goals and 1 task to complete. I called them my new work values.

How they compare to my most recent work experiences

As some of you may already know, From July till now, I've worked for a sustainable fashion company and a Danish e-commerce company. I did take my new work values into consideration when deciding if that was something I was comfortable with.

The Fashion Company

For the fashion company, I started slowly, working part-time and really getting to know the business well. Before actually working there, I had multiple shadow sessions where I would just look at them working, see where could there be improvements, and if it was within my abilities to follow through with the changes.

I felt accomplished there, more so non-financially and I loved planning my next days on Sunday night. It felt great to wake up on Monday morning, have my little morning routine, and start working.

As for being paid enough, that wasn't so much the case, and I've written about it here, but everything was agreed upon. The founder sisters were very transparent with me about their finances and I was okay with the payment, working part-time.

I had a support system I could count on financially and the time I spent with the fashion company was extremely important for me to get back to a healthy work mindset.

The Danish E-commerce Company

Here is where I feel like my new work values were more broadly contemplated. I find it funny because when writing my manifestation post, I wrote about balancing the work in an international company, dealing with clients from all over while working on the e-commerce part of a friend's fashion company.

As a Project Manager at this Danish company, this is exactly what I do. Working internationally, whether it's in-person or remotely, has been a dream of mine ever since I can remember.

I still do my Monday mornings and my pre-work routines, but I now feel like the non-financial accomplishments are bigger. I still get butterflies in my stomach when talking to my team and my clients.

Because I get paid in USD, the money aspect of the role has greatly improved. Although it's not much, it's enough for me to do exactly what I set out to do when I first wrote down my 2023 goals. I have enough to pay all of my bills, have some extra to go out and visit friends and family, and not have to worry too much about my expenses at the end of the month.

I am super thankful to reflect on these accomplishments and to think about the goals I had for myself. They weren't money-driven or show-off-driven anymore and I think I prioritized my well-being above all else.

My new and improved goals

I loved the new work values I put up for myself and I feel like I should keep them.

I do, though, want to add to them. I feel like the bulk of my attention, in 2023, has been geared toward healing and my new and improved work mindset.

For that reason, for the last 3 months of 2023, I want to focus on my physical health and my relationships. So this is where my mind will be until next New Year's Eve:

  • Take things slow at work and do not rush into any promotions or take over responsibilities if I don't feel I'm ready mentally.

  • Be so sure things will happen to me when the time is right that I stop doubting myself when they feel slow

  • Prioritize the relationship I have with my partner and turn it more into a haven.

  • Be closer to my immediate family, especially my sister.

  • Be more supportive of my best friends

  • Have more catch-up video calls with friends

  • Go. To. The. Gym.

What about you?
